Criticism of Nice reached a peak this month when the body decided to withhold Alzheimer’s drugs costing £2.50 a day from sufferers in the early stages of dementia.
Denying patients the drugs because they were not “ill enough” to ensure they were good value for money outraged doctors and relatives who claimed they saw daily benefits in Alzheimer’s sufferers.

Despite mental health problems, Jonathan Naess maintained a successful career, and insists others can do so too. Now he just has to persuade employers throughout the UK. By Mary O’Hara
The high-flying professionals “coming out” as mentally ill to confront the last workplace taboo
One afternoon at work, during an otherwise normal working week, Jonathan Naess was very publicly sectioned under the Mental Health Act. It was a humiliating experience. Naess was a successful corporate financier with a long career in the City under his belt. “It was pretty lurid because I was actually taken to an institution dressed in my pinstripe suit,” he recalls. Naess was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, or manic depression, as it is more commonly known and placed in a locked ward in a psychiatric hospital. While hospitalised, two things happened that prompted him to “come out” as mentally ill to his employer — a risky decision in the competitive world of finance — and to carve out an unlikely role for himself as a mental health campaigner.
The first happened on a particularly bad day. “It was a very low moment, a sort of baying at the moon, feeling very sorry for myself,” Naess explains. “I could see some very sick people who probably didn’t have the same resources and friends and family as I did. I thought, ‘I’ve got to have some solidarity with people who are perhaps not as lucky as me’.”
The second, a session with a psychiatrist, sparked Naess’ curiosity about why he had never encountered high flying professionals like himself who had a mental illness. “I was really encouraged when I saw a psychiatrist who said there are lots of lawyers and doctors and people like me who had this condition. I left the consulting room slightly curious as to what kind of lawyers these were. Whether or not they were hard-shooting City lawyers. So I was sceptical.”

I “did not mean to write a book that would explode every taboo.”
It as an inspired, funny, brilliantly rude and long-overdue affirmation; while it also an inflammatory, gratuitous, irresponsible article of near blasphemy.

You thought that only people with ME are treated, well you know how, but just read this in utter amazement……….
Every few weeks reports leak out about the treatment of Iraq War Veterans. It is bad enough that the nation is much more concerned about American Idol and Dancing With the Stars than what is happening in that god forsaken land, but the way we often treat the Sons and Daughters of the Republic is despicable.Increasingly, inorder to recruit those professionals, the government has had to be inventive.
One of the incentives has been a sign up bonus of up to $30,000.But the U.S. Military is now demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back the signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.
This is because they have been injured in battle, and are unable to complete their commitment. As disgusting as all the reports are about the government’s failure to treat veterans for mental disorders caused by the war, the refusal to provide troops in battle with proper helmets to prevent massive brain damage, and the despicable conditions which have been exposed in many VA hospitals, on this one we should all just hang our heads in collective shame.
Jordon Fox was seriously injured when a roadside bomb blew up his vehicle. He was knocked unconscious. His back was injured and lost all vision in his right eye. Not only will Jordon not be able to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer, the military is asking him to pay back $3,000 of his signing bonus, because he did not fulfill three months of his commitment.
NOW HOW SILLY CAN YOU BE. Well done Mr Bush-
