“GPs and junk science
By Mike Fitzpatrick, in the BJGP of September 2007, pp.757-757(1).
According to the ‘first law of bullshit dynamics’ propounded by Ben Goldacre in his ‘Bad Science’ column in the Guardian, ‘there is no imaginable proposition so absurd that you cannot find at least one person, somewhere in the world with a PhD or professional post, who is happy to endorse it.
Take, for instance, the campaign against the MMR vaccine. In July 2006 a GP was struck off the medical register, and he was reported to have taken up residence in Runaway Bay, Queensland, Australia. (Like much of the MMR saga, you couldn’t make it up).
Evidence by an expert witness, was dismissed by the judge as ‘junk science’. The expert was accused of ‘being confused in her thinking, lacking logic, making statements lacking valid facts, ignoring the facts, ignoring the conclusion of papers, making implications without any scientific validation, giving a superficial impression of a paper, not presenting the counter argument, quoting selectively from papers, and of providing in one instance, no data and no facts to support her claim.”
The judge pretty much summed up the ME guidelines by NICE, and all the, so called, evidence from the CBT Brigade, wouldn’t you think???.

You wait ages for a PSYCHIATRIST to say something sensible in the BMJ about ME, and finally, after weeks of waiting, that very person has arrived. Oh yes, I know he writes about the Australian guidelines when he means the South Australian ones, but he has already emailed me to apologise to everybody on his behalf. I must say, it was very refreshing indeed, to hear from a psychiatrist who actually stated in his email, but also in his rapid response, that there is NO place for a psychiatrist to treat a neurological illness, like ME. Unless they ALSO have a mental health issue.
I know, we have the brilliant Guidelines for psychiatrists to treat and assess ME by Dr STEIN, but not only has Mr NICE got an Internet phobia, they also don’t want anyone challenging their delusional beliefs about ME. Strange but true. You would think that the Government wants people back at work. Well, with a guideline that was already full of rust in the folder, that won’t happen. Back to the drawing boards old chaps. Off you go, chop chop.

“Why the Name of An Illness is of Importance
Leonard A. Jason
DePaul University
CFS is frequently confused with chronic fatigue, which is a symptom of many illnesses, including some psychiatric disorders. The negative stigma associated with CFS may be partially due to the trivializing name that has been given to this disorder in 1988.”
You can find more on this at: http://www.aacfs.org/p/259.html
NICE to see that a PSYCHOLOGIST realises what a BAD job many of his psycho colleagues, especially from the CBT KINGDOM’s, have been doing in their quest for MONEY and GLORY.

This was supposed to be about a rapid response by a psychiatrist but as a Blogging Dummie, a bit like many so called experts who are actually ME Dummies, I can’t get this Blog what I want it to do yet. So I will put a link here instead, about the rapid response I TRIED TO POST in the BMJ, but which was rejected for no apparent reason.
Dr Speedy was so KIND to put it on his BLOG instead, and he directed me towards the best therapy for ME. That is if you are BEDBOUND and your brain is up to it. According to him, the BEST THERAPY by far is to DO something. As the options are limited he suggested to start my own BLOG.
And I agree, getting out and about on the NET, and getting lovely, mostly, FEEDBACK, works so much better than talk therapy for a neurological disease. And you know what Mr NICE, it is FREE. So please, hand the ELEVEN million back, so we can use it for proper research instead of your Character Breaking Treatment.
My submission to the BMJ, the rejected one, was published, thanks to Dr Speedy at:

Just received some comments from the fanclub from the CBT KINGDOM, called the Wiki Admin, JFW writes:
“I was somewhat shocked to read in the Gibson Report that Simon Wessely seems to have discontinued much of his work on CFS/ME as a result of harrassment. Perhaps this ought to be represented in the article?”
Dear oh dear, a professor who can’t diagnose ME, and then gets lots of criticism feels harrassed. If he would do a proper job, no one would question everything he does; that is we would just have a normal critical approach just like we should have towards any article people publish. Although many doctors don’t know what critical reading is or the few who do don’t have the time to do so. Besides, if he is at the top of the building he will feel more wind than down at the bottom. And as far as I KNOW, NO ONE FORCED HIM to become a professor in the first place.
Besides, what is he complaining about??? The NICE guidelines are written by him, i.e. by someone like him. But yes I agree, I won’t miss him. Although it will be just like with patients who are removed from a GPs list because they have been violent etc. You remove one, you get one back, so who will be the NEXT TOP DOG at the MAGIC CBT KINGDOM as Dr Speedy calls it very appropriately??? And finally, will he really retire or will he come back either under cover or doing his own locum??? I have seen that done many times before. Or is he retiring due to ill health?? Even though he has been the worst thing for ME since sliced bread, I still hope he isn’t ill. Although many psychiatrists retire early to avoid suicide or mental health problems. If you don’t believe me, what is the category of doctors with the highest rates of suicides?? You guessed right, psychiatrists. And no, most are not dealing with patients with neurological illnesses and think it is a mental health problem.

This is a NICE article about so called medical experts who instruct parents if their child is ill, NOT to consult their GPs in the first three months.
If I would say that as a GP how quickly will I end up in front of the board (the GMC that is)??
But these so called experts can apparently say what they want under the umbrella of evidence based medicine. Haha.

Dear all,
This obviously would be NICE, but this is more the credo of my namesake than ME.
I have the problem that I’m having a disease that is heavily disputed, at least by psychiatrists like Simon Wessely, but NOT by ME. I’m a GP with ME and have the trouble of having ME and having to fight people from the BIG and powerful MAGIC CBT KINGDOM that wants to rule the ME world and make our lives even more miserable.
This site however is not only about ME but also about FUN, because LIFE SHOULD be FUN. Even lying on the couch 24/7.
Have a NICE day.
Simon.
